- Yeah, an "MS/DOS Systems Programmer". Big deal. It takes about a week to
- learn to be a system programmer for MS/DOS (that's how long my first TSR
- took...and that included learning enough 80x86 assembler to code what I
- wanted, and learning the basics of how the EGA and VGA cards worked, not to
- mention the BIOS and BDOS calls and exits. My TSR restored the pallet
- registers at program terminations...the EGA's were "write-only" so programs
- couldn't usually restore the previous values).
-
- Systems Programmers tend to be more platform-specific, and/or OS-specific,
- than applications programmers. An MVS System Programmer will not be any
- better at VMS System Programming than the average VMS applications
- programmer and probably much less so, since he'll need to learn to use basic
- utilities before he can do anything useful.

- Umm...don't you have a fixed price connection? My home address costs me
- $19.95 a month, unlimited shell access (4 hours of SLIP or PPP included, $1
- an hour for more, but I've never needed more). That's an average price for
- that kind of service from what I've seen...at least in the US near a major
- city. Things change all the time, check around and you might find a cheaper
- alternative that gets you what you need.
